Talev explained that part of having a free press is allowing people to report on the news whether it's good or bad, momentous or mundane, without "fear or favor". "Presenting an honest portrait of elected leaders", read an article on Wednesday, "even - and especially - against their will is, of course, why the First Amendment to the Constitution cements the role of a free press".

After the President's tweet today, CNN reported that he has repeatedly "mused privately" about revoking credentials.

President Donald Trump threatened certain media outlets' press credentials on Wednesday, claiming negative press coverage of his administration was "fake".

Last fall, the Media Research Center released a study citing that figure after evaluating the nightly newscasts on ABC, CBS and NBC during the summer.

Taking away credentials would effectively bar networks from White House press conferences and severely restrict coverage of the President.

NUNES: Congress to Hold AG Sessions in Contempt
The Department of Justice also shot back on Sunday, released the letter sent to Nunes on May 3, which addressed the classified information Nunes had requested.

However, his White House has never denied credentials to news outlets.

President Trump sent out a tweet that has many in the media concerned as it relates to access to the White House.

Trump's tweet exposes the veneer shrouding his "fake news" criticisms, confirming that he believes any negative news about him, regardless of its veracity, is fake.

During the presidential campaign, Trump's team barred the Washington Post and other news outlets from campaign events, after the candidate expressed anger at the news organization's coverage. "The fact that the public has become more favorable towards the president in this environment is the latest sign that the media watchdog's bite isn't as menacing as their bark suggests". "He also suggested that he could punish the networks by "[taking] away credentials".
