Twitter claims user passwords exposed, tells users to change

Twitter has warned its more than 330 million users worldwide to change their account passwords due to a bug recently found in its internal network.

An internal investigation found no indication that passwords were stolen or misused, Twitter added, but users should change their passwords "out of an abundance of caution".

-Change your password on Twitter and on any other service where you may have used the same password.

Twitter did not say how many passwords were affected but it is understood the number was "substantial" and that they were exposed for "several months".

The company encrypts user passwords via a process called hashing to keep them safe. You can find your list of Twitter-linked accounts here.
