  • Trump calls for prosecuting 'untruthful slime ball' ex-FBI chief Comey

Trump fired Comey in May 2017, citing the FBI's behavior in investigating Democrat Hillary Clinton and its probe into possible Trump campaign collusion with Russian Federation to tilt the 2016 presidential election.

The book is due to be released on Tuesday, but Comey has already appeared on television to promote it and the White House has been strategizing for weeks about how to discredit him.

Comey says that during a private, one-on-one dinner with Trump on January 27, 2017, Trump brought up the dossier and said, "He may want me to investigate it to prove that it didn't happen". In the book, Comey paints President Trump as a liar and an unethical mafia-boss-type figure. Trump has denied any collusion.

While Comey doesn't divulge the information, many speculate whether the document relates to Lynch's infamous "tarmac meeting" with former President Bill Clinton just days before her Justice Department exonerated Hillary Clinton of any wrongdoing.

Comey said he first informed Trump about the dossier in a private meeting that followed one where US intelligence officials briefed Trump on Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe was sacked last month, days before his retirement, following an internal review that accused him of being untruthful about his role in the leaking of damaging information on the Clinton email investigation.

Anticipating broad media attention for Comey as his book tour gets underway, Sanders scolded reporters in advance for preparing to "cover it endlessly, all day today, all day tomorrow, and my guess is every day next week with very little time given to the issues that people care about".

Democrats, who had been critical of Comey's handling of the Clinton investigation, defended him against Trump's attacks.

Former president Barack Obama offered him kind words after the Clinton probe fallout Mr Comey detailed for the first time a private assurance he received from Mr Obama following the fallout of the Clinton e-mail saga.

Trump fired Comey in May 2017 in an act that has been under scrutiny by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III.

The former Federal Bureau of Investigation director also said he was struck by what the Trump team didn't ask. Perhaps the most shocking allegation that Comey has raised is that President Trump asked him to "investigate" the infamous dossier alleging that Trump watched Russian prostitutes urinate on each other and that the Kremlin had a tape.

Trump denied the allegations and said he might want the FBI to investigate allegations in the dossier to prove they were untrue, Comey told ABC. "We should be putting him down and taking him off of air instead of giving him minute after minute". It was nearly an out-of-body experience for me.

As for "lewd dossier allegations" the Post alludes to in its headline? "I want you to know that nothing - nothing - has happened in the previous year to change my view".

In January 2017, United States intelligence chiefs briefed Mr Trump and his advisers on Russia's election meddling.

He said his service to Mr Trump recalled for him the days when he investigated the mob in NY as a prosecutor.
