Twin Galaxies Investigation Leads To Billy Mitchell's Scores Being Revoked

Young had become suspicious of Mitchell's seeming inability to recreate his more than 1 million point scores in public settings, and came to believe that Mitchell had instead passed off emulated rather than official arcade cabinet footage for the records. The organization is widely respected as the authority on gaming records worldwide, and the administrative board has voted to strip Donkey Kong player Billy Mitchell of his world record scores.

Almost two months ago, Mitchell's scores were also removed from the leaderboards at Donkey Kong Forum.

Oddly enough, coming years after King of Kong's release, both Mitchell and Weibe's records are now long outdated, with Robbie Lakeman holding the current record at 1,247,700 points. The body also reached out to the Guinness Book of World Records to have Mitchell's scores struck from their data as well.

So in an ironic twist of fate, Steve Wiebe, Mitchell's rival in Fistful of Quarters, is now recognized as the first person to score more than one million points in Donkey Kong - at least in Twin Galaxies eyes.

Philadelphia 76ers set sights on Milwaukee Bucks, No. 3 seed
That isn't who we are right now. "We are an old club, with a tremendous amount of culture and a tremendous amount of history". The Philadelphia 76ers are back in the National Basketball Association playoffs for the first time since the 2011-12 season.

The advantage of Mitchell's emulator is unknown, but it could have included things like save states (so he could try again from a certain point if he died) or allowed him to alter certain aspects of the game to more easily progress further and further. As of Thursday, he has been officially stripped of his Donkey Kong and other videogame high scores, as well as being banned from submitting any future scores to Twin Galaxies.

"The rules for submitting scores for the original arcade Donkey Kong competitive leaderboards requires the use of original arcade hardware only".

Since then Mitchell has remained the King of Kong, that is, until today as Twin Galaxies declared that Mitchell's score was technically impossible to achieve without a modified unit. All they needed to close this case was proof that the game was not running on original hardware. What this means is that the high scores were not achieved on an arcade machine, which is an official requirement.

Mitchell, who said in February that the "original tape" would vindicate his scores (and that he never used MAME), chose not to directly respond to Twin Galaxies questions about those performances, the administration said (he has also not responded to a request for comment from Ars Technica). However, Twin Galaxies understands that this is required for it to continue its commitment to accuracy.
