On Monday, at least 29 people, including 27 children, were killed and many others got injured after a school bus in which they were traveling fell into a 100-feet deep gorge in Nurpur area of Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh.

Most of those who died were younger than 10 years old, while the bus driver and two teachers were also killed.

Meanwhile, Thakur met the injured children at Nurpur Hospital (Kangra) and Amandeep Hospital (Punjab) and wished them a speedy recovery.

In a tweet, Indian President Ram Nath Kovind said, "Extremely saddened to learn about the tragic school bus accident in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh".

Roads in India, particularly in the hills have always been feared for their deep potholes, reckless drivers and very often, a lack of guardrails, fatal accidents are common.

An eyewitness said that the local villagers had begun rescue operation even before officials could reach the spot, a team of National Disaster Management Authority and local fire brigade who was involved in the rescue operations reached two hours late.

Just before 5 p.m., Omaha Police were called to the scene of a traffic incident involving a school bus near 22nd and Sprague in North Omaha.

"Prima facie, negligent driving and over-speeding are the main reasons for the accident", he added.

"After several students disembarked the bus, the bus driver continued her route westbound on Sprague Street", the report states.

Vice-president M Venkaiah Naidu and prime minister Narendra Modi condoled the loss of lives. Last year, a truck veered off the road at the same spot where yesterday's bus accident took place.

Chief minister Jai Ram Thakur expressed his deep condolence over the sad demise of school children in the bus accident.
