Obed Mbatha, who says he grew up with Mr Zuma and considers himself a friend, took the day off work to come and support Mr Zuma.
"This matter is adjourned to 8th June 2018 which is a provisional date and the two accused before court are released on warning", said Judge Themba Sishi.
Zuma did not look at Guerrier, or attempt to communicate with her until the court session was over.
Zuma is facing 16 charges relating to 783 payments he allegedly received in connection with the controversial arms deal. He has served as president since 2009 and has faced numerous allegations of corruption which he denies.
He was replaced by Cyril Ramaphosa after nine years in power. Zuma asked? "The truth will come out". What have I done?
"I want to thank you as I thanked you many years ago".
Zuma escaped an impeachment attempt over the issue in parliament in September 2016, when ANC lawmakers voted overwhelmingly against it. He is one of us - we will not desert him.
Speaking in isiZulu, the former president said some people were pushing for the trial to go ahead but that they would be sorry. "Zuma! Zuma!" by supporters in the public gallery.
