During initial reports of the story, the names of the two soldiers who lost their lives were not released.

Fort Campbell officials say both crew members were killed and that there were no other casualties.

The 101st Airborne specializes in helicopter assaults, meaning constant training and occasional crashes at Fort Campbell.

Acting senior commander, Todd Royner, issued a statement calling the tragedy a day of sadness for the 101st airborne. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families during this hard time".

According to Army Times, the two soldiers were on a routine training mission at about 9:50 p.m. when they crashed.

The fatal crash follows a week of incidents for the military.

On Wednesday, a U.S. Air Force fighter jet crashed at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada during a training flight, killing the pilot. The pilot ejected from the plane before impact and survived the crash. Later the same day, a Marine Corps CH-53 helicopter sustained "minor damage" while landing in Arta Beach.

Two soldiers were killed during a helicopter training routine at Fort Campbell in Kentucky. He said each is tragic and will be investigated.
