A year ago during the launch of iPhone X, Apple showcased some exclusive AR Snapchat lenses, specially made for iPhone X. Today we have got the news that Snapchat is releasing them officially. For now, iPhone X's TrueDepth front-facing sensor is the only camera that can support this Snapchat feature. The iPhone X's TrueDepth camera system uses 30 thousand infrared dots to track your face movements, and it powers native features like Animojis and FaceID on the iPhone X. Using the TrueDepth camera system instead of its own, software-powered tech for face tracking will essentially allow for improved accuracy. It's unclear if new filters will be added, and how long the existing ones will be available.

The lenses available now makes use of the data from the phone's 2D camera to guess facial features, like eyebrows and mouth.

It's worth remembering that, though the TrueDepth camera is used in both this case and for Face ID, there are different layers of security at work. According to the company, 1 in 3 of its daily users doesn't forget to check lenses.

With so much about data privacy issues going on these days, not to mention Facebook's Cambridge Analytica scandal, it is only fair to ask how much of TrueDepth camera data does Apple share with third-party apps like Snapchat.

Tesla records its most productive quarter to date
And it issued its largest recall to date , warning about 123,000 Model S drivers that their car's power steering might fail. Tesla's stock fell by 22 percent in March, the steepest monthly drop since December 2010, the year the company went public.

Basically, the new lenses are AR Mask for the iPhone X and these lenses are compatible to work with the full face of the users.

There was news that Apple might be sharing facial mapping data to develop these lenses further.

It is wise to note that developers (like Snapchat) will only get visual facial mapping data and not the Face ID data that is used to authenticate or unlock your iPhone X. It's using this facial data that they are able to accurately animate both Animoji and these new Snapchat Lenses.

In the developer agreement, Apple has clearly mentioned that the data fetched can not be used for advertising and marketing purposes, keeping the security issues in mind.
