  • David Hogg reacts to Laura Ingraham's apology

She made no mention of the uproar on her show Thursday night except for a cryptic remark when she asked people tweeting at her to be kind.

Ingraham had taunted 17-year-old David Hogg on Wednesday after he said he was rejected for admission at four colleges.

Although Hogg has launched into profanity-laced tirades blaming the National Rifle Association (NRA) - and even NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch personally - for the tragic mass shootings in schools across America, he did not actually whine about college rejections.

After many of her advertisers started ending their sponsorship with Ingraham, she offered an apology to Hogg by saying he "should be proud of a 4.2 GPA" and inviting him to be a future guest on her show. The Atlantis, Paradise Island resort; Office Depot, Jenny Craig, Hulu, Nutrish, TripAdvisor, Expedia, Wayfair, StitchFix, Nestlé and Johnson & Johnson said they would pull ads from the show.

Dylan O'Brien had some words for a Fox News host that wanted to mock a young student. He confirmed that he had been rejected from four schools: University of California, Los Angeles; University of California, San Diego; University of California, Santa Barbara; and University of California, Irvine. Stories shared on social media said that meant Hogg changed his story from an earlier account of being at school during the shooting, although some sites followed up with posts noting their misinterpretation. In regard to his rejections from the UC schools, Hogg said, "I am not surprised at all, in all honesty".

If your defense of Ingraham is, "But David Hogg said some mean things on Twitter!" then you ought to think about whether there might be a better response for you to make as an adult.

The Conservative host has since apologised for her feud with the teenager.

"You're a mother", one person wrote, while another called her a " vile deplorable" who takes every opportunity to "slander and smear these kids".

While the movement has received lots of support, Ingraham made fun of Hogg.

Since the 2016 election, calls to boycott retailers have become frequent: The #GrabYourWallet campaign began as a way to protest President Donald Trump and identified companies that carried merchandise bearing the Trump name.

Hogg said Ingraham's attacks were "really, really stupid", adding that the subsequent backlash shows that people are fed up with her and the scourge of gun violence.

But her apology did not stop companies from departing.

"We are in the process of removing our ads from Laura Ingraham's program", Nutrish tweeted Thursday morning.
